Why storms find seams and edges
Wind does not tear a roof off all at once. It lifts at the edges and corners, then peels. Wind-driven rain finds open seams and loose flashings. On a Corpus Christi roof, the edges, corners and seams are where the work has to be right.
What Duro-Last brings to a coastal roof
Fewer field seams. With most seams welded in the factory, there is far less rooftop welding that depends on heat, wind and crew conditions on install day.
Pre-made flashings. Corners, parapet flashings and drainage details can arrive pre-fabricated with welded membrane skirts.
Wind and hail warranty options. Duro-Last offers warranty options that can include high wind and hail coverage. Ask which option fits your building and location.
What the roofer has to get right
- Edge metal and perimeter securement rated for the wind zone, with corrosion-resistant metal for the salt air.
- Fastening patterns at corners and perimeters laid out to the design and left visible for the windstorm inspector.
- Sound deck attachment and dry insulation before the new roof goes on.
- Rooftop equipment curbs and penetrations flashed and secured so they do not become the starting point for a peel.
Windstorm certification on the Texas coast
Corpus Christi, Portland, Ingleside, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Rockport and Kingsville are in Texas coastal counties. According to TWIA, replacing a roof or repairing a significant portion of one needs a windstorm Certificate of Compliance (WPI-8), and TWIA generally requires one on file for a building to be eligible for its wind and hail coverage. Plan the Duro-Last roof and the inspection together from day one.
After a storm
Walk the perimeter and look for lifted edge metal and debris damage. Duro-Last asks owners to inspect the roof at least twice a year and to report a leak under warranty within 7 to 14 days of finding it. For storm damage, our 24/7 line is (361) 320-3131.
How Nelson Roof Contracting runs a Duro-Last job
1. Inspect and measure. We walk the roof, check the deck and insulation, and take the exact measurements Duro-Last needs to fabricate your roof.
2. Duro-Last builds your roof in the factory. From our measurements, Duro-Last fabricates the deck sheets and flashings to fit your building, with up to 85% of the seams welded before delivery.
3. Supervised installation. Our crews install the system with every job supervised, paying special attention to edges, corners and penetrations, where coastal roofs fail.
4. Windstorm inspection. On the Texas coast we plan the roof for the windstorm inspection and WPI-8 certificate from day one.
5. Duro-Last's own inspection. A Duro-Last Quality Assurance technical representative inspects the finished roof before the warranty is issued.
